Originally from Maliotenam in north-eastern Québec, Shauit Kashinemu is an extraordinary singer-songwriter who’s made a name for himself on the Aboriginal and Quebec music scenes – and, increasingly, far beyond. Singing in Creole, French, English, and in his own Innu-aimun language, his songs are honest, sometimes political, reflections on his life, culture and worldview. His ingenious and award-winning sound explores a mix of reggae, dancehall and soul with Innu-aimun. In his latest recording, Natukun, though – made in collaboration with the great Yves Lambert – he embraces Quebecois and Innu folk traditions.
