She was born Jane Irish Theresa Monica Bernadette Mythen in County Wexford, Ireland. Growing up, she was not allowed to listen to the music that her older sister and brother played, like Depeche Mode, and Wham!, “So I got stuck with my parents’ music which I thought was terrible at the time, but it was Dylan. It was Makem & Clancy. It was Joan Baez.’’ She taught herself guitar and pursued a music career.
Irish moved to Charlottetown, PEI in 2008. “This Island creates music and musicians, art and artists. I found a shift to take things more seriously when I moved here.” And she did just that.

Her latest release, Little Bones, gained her global recognition, a 2020 JUNO nomination for Contemporary Roots Album, seven Music PEI 2020 nominations and two wins, and a Canadian Folk Music nomination. Her previous album, Irish Mythen, garnered her multiple nominations and awards. Articles in Australian Guitar Magazine, Rolling Stone and a plethora of media world-wide have helped plant Irish firmly on the map of Must-See Artists.
As one fan says, “I’ve been blessed with seeing and hearing a lot of talented musicians in my life, but I have never experienced anyone quite like Irish Mythen. She is a force of nature and a gift from the Almighty Herself”.
Closing out Sunday night.
