“Pure heart and soul run deep with his message and beat.”
A singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Aysanabee’s music has been variously described as introspective folk, indie-pop-rock, and R&B – but the deep soul in his voice comes through in whatever song he sings. His music tells the story of his life, his lived experience and about reconnecting with his roots.
Born Evan Pang, Aysanabee (his reclaimed family name) is Oji-Cree from the Sucker Clan of the Sandy Lake First Nation. He currently calls Toronto home, but grew up in several northern towns across Manitoba and Ontario until settling in Kaministiquia, outside of Thunder Bay, where he taught himself to play guitar and write songs.
Aysanabee burst on to the music scene after the Indigenous Music Awards’ 2020 Emerging Artists Series, going on to take part in the IMAs music video competition which featured his unique finger-style guitar playing.
His first full-length album is forthcoming on Ishkōdé Records, a newly-formed Indigenous owned and operated label.
