Fusing their roots with jazz, folk and global rhythms, OKAN takes their name from the word for heart in their Afro-Cuban religion of Santeria. Featuring a blend of vocals in both English and Spanish, OKAN is led by the Cuban-born violinist and vocalist Elizabeth Rodriguez, and percussionist/violinist Magdelys Savigne, both of whom are Grammy and Latin-Grammy nominees. Elizabeth and Magdelys bring a fresh perspective to their Latin and world jazz fusion through their powerful harmonies, elevated musicianship and provocative (but playful) lyrical content. Passionate advocates for freedom of expression, queer rights and gender equality, OKAN’s reputation for their powerful live performances, incredible harmonies and virtuosic musicianship, as well as their ability to connect with audiences on a deep emotional level, is well-earned.
